The Samro Stone and Clod separator from Farm Electronics’ parent company Tolsma-Grisnich seems to have created a large amount of interest from customers over the past few months.
The idea of this particular machine is to remove stones and clods from a batch of potatoes, onions and other root vegetables with an accuracy of 95%. There are 3 models available offering capacities from 12 – 50 tonnes per hour. The machine can be incorporated into existing grading lines or as a one-off stand-alone unit which means it is very versatile could appeal to many growers as a low cost, high efficiency tool in their sorting operation as well as savings on labour.
This has the opportunity of fitting into many UK growers grading lines as a viable alternative to optical sorters which can be costly.
The product to be processed is either fed onto the supply belt of the separator by a transport conveyor belt (TG SAMRO 24 and TG SAMRO 44) or directly via a chute (TG SAMRO 72). From there, the product is transported towards the separation unit. A magnetic bar is fitted underneath the supply belt, which only polarises the clods and stones. Sensors then control pneumatic rams which eject the polarised clods and stones. The sensitivity of the sensors to clods and stones can be set separately. The clods and stones are removed by means of a transverse conveyor.
